The Fletcher Way: Better Banking with a Personal Touch

At our USF Credit Union Fletcher Branch, you might hear a little salsa, a few dad jokes, or even the Rocky theme song playing to get the team fired up for the day.
But the real soundtrack is the sound of people who enjoy working together - and members who feel right at home when they walk through the door.
“We have a lot of usuals,” says Diana T., Fletcher branch manager. “Then, we also have those that refer their family and friends. So that's how we know we're doing something right.”
At Fletcher, relationships aren't an added benefit of the job. They're at the heart of it.
A Team That's All About the Family
Ask the Fletcher team what makes their branch special, and you'll hear a common theme: they genuinely enjoy being around one another.
“We have some very talented people in the branch,” says Deanna S. “We've got people that can do round offs and cartwheels. We've got other people that can sing.”
And, apparently, they're not shy about having a good time.
“This is like the fun corner over here,” Deanna says. “Not going to lie. It's also the loudest corner. Go figure.”
That energy has a purpose. When people enjoy working together, it creates an atmosphere members can feel, too.
“A lot of what surprises the members, I think, is just what kind of community and family we are here,” Deanna says. “We do get along and they come in and they see us laughing and having a good time.”
For Diana, keeping that team spirit alive is part of being a branch manager. Some mornings start with a positive quote. Other days call for a little music.
“If I have to play salsa or merengue or the Rocky theme song, because I've done that in our meetings, it gets everyone pumped and ready to go,” she says.
Whatever it takes to get the day started on the right note.
Around Here, You're More Than a Familiar Face
At Fletcher, members don't always have to explain who they are or figure out who to ask for. Often, they already know the team by name.
“Members come in, they already know us by our names,” says Leslie A., a Universal Service Representative. “And they literally just request each and every one of us differently. And if one is not here, they go to the next person.”
For Leslie, one of the best parts of the job is getting to know the people behind the transactions.
“My favorite part? Engaging with members, knowing different stories, like backgrounds,” she says.
Sometimes, a conversation goes beyond what a member originally came in to do. And Leslie is happy to make room for it.
“It's okay, you can always talk to me,” she tells members.
That's the kind of personal connection that makes a difference. Members aren't just stopping by to take care of their banking. They're connecting with people who are happy to listen.
And Leslie has a simple way of putting it.
“Once you come in my office, I make it known you're my friend. So ask for me. If I'm not here, ask for the next friend.”
Different Languages. One Common Goal.
The Fletcher branch serves a growing community, bringing together people with different backgrounds, experiences and languages.
For the team, those differences are an opportunity to connect.
“Everybody's different. They speak different languages,” Leslie says. “Sometimes they teach us how to speak their language, which is pretty cool. And I'm Spanish, so they want to know Spanish and I try to teach them Spanish, too.”
Deanna has experienced that connection firsthand, even when she and a member don't speak the same language.
“I'm like, I don't speak a lick of your language and you don't speak a lick of mine, but yes, I am happy to help you. We can work through this together.”
Those moments stay with her.
“It makes you feel special. It makes you feel like you are doing something important.”
When the Team Feels Like Family, Members Feel It, Too
The relationships inside the Fletcher branch extend well beyond the workday.
Deanna describes a team that shows up for one another in everyday life, whether it's lending a hand or helping a coworker through an unexpected challenge.
“I really just enjoy that we are close-knit,” she says. “It's a nice place to work.”
Diana sees that same connection as a big part of what keeps her going.
“I do like that we try to help our members, like I said, every single one and making a difference,” she says. “And what keeps me going every single day is really my team.”
That support makes a difference when the branch gets busy, when a member needs extra help, and in all the small moments that turn a workplace into a community.
And members notice.
When people walk into a branch and see employees who enjoy being together, it helps create a welcoming atmosphere. When those same employees take the time to learn their names, listen to their stories and work through their needs, that welcome becomes something more.
